The Animas IR 1250 and the Animas 2020 have many of the same features as the Medtronic pumps. The newer 2020 model is the first insulin pump to have a flat panel, high-contrast color screen. The Animas 2020 also can store the last 500 blood glucose values and carbohydrate counts. Here are some key points about the Animas pumps:

1 You can set up to 12 basal rates in four personalized programs in 24 hours as well as a temporary basal rate.
1 They have a program called CarbSmart that stores up to 500 food items and allows calculation of insulin for the blood glucose and carbohydrates to be eaten.
1 The battery is an AA lithium or an AA alkaline.
1 They're waterproof up to 12 feet.
