Why isnt human amylin used in practice

It is not used in practice because it is not adequately dissolved and tends to precipitate quickly in the various solvents. For this reason the equivalent amylin analogue, pramlintide, was created, that is administered with a subcutaneous injection and is cleared by the kidneys. When 30-60mg of pramlintide are administered to individuals with Type 1 DM and 120 mg in individuals with Type 2 DM, the concentrations of pramlintide in the plasma amount to levels equivalent with the pre-prandial physiologic ones.
