What are the causes of hypoglycaemia in diabetic persons

The causes that frequently lead to hypoglycaemia are:

• administration of an excessive dose of insulin or at a wrong time;

• decreased intake of food;

• delay or omission of a meal, or low carbohydrate content of the food;

• intense muscular activity;

• alcohol consumption without concomitant intake of carbohydrate-containing food;

• presence of gastroparesis due to autonomic neuropathy (delays food absorption from the gastrointestinal tract).
