Current And Novel Therapeutic Approaches And Targets

Therapies to reduce tubulo-interstitial fibrogenesis in DN may be directed toward preventing the glomerular ultrafiltration of growth factors and other proteins into tubular fluid or to inhibit downstream interactions with tubular cells; or to modify the tubulo-interstitial responses. At present, generally accepted preventative therapies are aimed at reducing proteinuria/glomerular protein ultrafiltration. Several other interventions and therapeutic targets have been tested experimentally and some may give rise to clinical therapies in the future.
