Leaving hospital

When the time comes for the patient to leave hospital the following should be addressed:

• A wheelchair should be provided

• Wheelchair accessible accommodation should be available

• Patient is able to transfer

• Patient is managing his own programme of exercises

• Patient is medically stable

• Follow-up care has been organized. Ideally the patient should be capable of:

• Putting on and taking off the prosthesis independently

• Walking with the prosthesis

• Moving up and down stairs

• Walking outside

• Getting on and off the floor independently.
